What We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account Information: Name, phone number, email address and profile photo when you create an account.
- Chat & Communications: Messages are end-to-end encrypted. We do not have access to the content of your private chats. Message metadata may be retained for service operation.
- Location Data: With your permission, for Taxi booking, nearby merchant discovery and community PSAs. You can disable this in device settings at any time.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers and app version.
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app — features used, time spent, Hub marketplace browsing.
- Financial Data: Konnect Token transactions. Payment card details are processed by our secure payment partners, not stored by Konnexion.
- Camera & Media: Photos and videos you choose to capture or upload via Status posts or Live Streams.
- Merchant Data: Inventory data, sales records, analytics and business information entered into the merchant dashboard.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate and improve the Konnexion platform.
- To personalise your experience — community feed, marketplace recommendations and Mpho AI AI responses.
- To process Konnect Token transactions and maintain your Digital Wallet balance.
- To enable Live Vibes streams, virtual gifts, and Vibe Quest challenges.
- To deliver Public Service Announcements relevant to your location.
- To facilitate taxi bookings with real-time location sharing (only during active trips).
- To generate AI features — poster creation, music, voiceovers and circle-to-try-on. Uploaded images are processed in real time and not stored for training purposes.
- To power the merchant Data & Analytics dashboard — transaction data generates financial reports for your account only.
- To comply with legal obligations under South African law including POPIA.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these circumstances:
- With Other Users: Public posts are visible to other Konnexion users. Private chats are end-to-end encrypted.
- With Wholesalers: When you send shopping list orders, your list and contact details go to the selected wholesaler for fulfilment.
- Service Providers: Cloud hosting, payment processors and analytics partners — all contractually bound to confidentiality.
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order or to protect user safety.
- Business Transfers: In the event of merger or acquisition, subject to the same privacy protections.
Security
- End-to-end encryption for all private and group chat messages.
- Secure HTTPS for all data transmitted between app and servers.
- Encrypted storage for sensitive account and financial information.
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
No system is 100% immune to breaches. We encourage you to use a strong password and enable available security features on your account.
Your Rights Under POPIA
- Right of Access: Request a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Right to Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Right to Deletion: Request deletion, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to Object: Object to certain processing of your personal information.
